Be still my wandering thoughts......

Ever have those days (or for me more commonly nights) when thoughts wander?  In a sea of endless transition to and fro, past and present and future plans/memories flow, seamlessly into one another?  I find when I have these times, something is off kilter in my life.  Time to check in and find that inner balance and peace, or maybe more importantly to start by looking at the road barriers preventing me from getting to that state of just being. Worry.  For me that is my greatest foe in my ongoing journey towards finding a greater sense of inner peace in my life.  Worry about family/friends/work/money/health.....so much we have very little control over yet we are almost programmed to worry as if it will in some way affect the outcome of whatever we are choosing to worry about."Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." Corrie ten Boom.Wondering if I have quoted her before.  Love this quote.  I use it often in sessions with clients trying to start to create a change in thought process, highlighting the futility of "worry."  Though culturally, or often from religious upbringing, we are almost comforted in our state of worry and anxiety, it does absolutely nothing to protect us from the sorry that may come our way, rather it more often prevents us from truly enjoying the beauty of what today offers each of us.  It prevents us from enjoying the beauty of today.  And when I think of it that way, it helps me to put worry it its place.  I practice putting worry it in its place and offering it up to God or the universe, practice calming my mind and body by utilizing deep breaths, and when all else fails (and sometimes, admit it does) I think of music that calms me and drowns out those inner thoughts of I can't.....Indigo Girls (anything really....but listening to "Mystery" today). Kacey Musgraves "Silver Lining." Ron Pope "Fireflies" (new fave).  Damien Rice "Delicate." Ellie Goulding "Anything Could Happen." Foo Fighters....too many to choose.  Anything..... Idina Menzel & Kristen Cheneweth (Wicked) "For Good." K's Choice "Shadowman." Kellie Pickler "Little bit Gypsy." Lady Antebellum "American Honey." Lenny Kravitz "I'll be Waiting." Liz Phair "Extraordinary." Meiko "Hiding." Noel Gallagher "If I had a Gun." Of Monsters and Men "Little Talks." P!NK "Try." Passion Pit "Take a Walk."  Patty Griffin "Rain." Ryan Adams "Come Pick me Up." Sufjan Stevens "Casimir Pulaski Day." Todd Rudgren "Can we still be friends?" The Weepies "World Spins Madly On." Zac Brown Band "Knee Deep."Listening to music, more specifically focusing on lyrics, supports thought of how connected we are as humans.  Our joys/our sorrow/our struggles/our triumphs are not dissimilar to those of others. While the semantics of ours may feel unique, in the end we are all flawed and perfect at the same time wandering down this path called life....."We cannot live only for ourselves.  A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow man; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as affects." Herman Melville.  Peace......
